Since 1976, the top rock band U2 has released 13 studio albums that went on to make U2 one of the world’s best-selling music bands.* While “Songs of Experience”, their fourteenth studio album, was set to be released on December 1, 2017, the album was leaked on November 27 – four days ahead of the official schedule – which we reported on in the TECXIPIO leak alerts! In the days leading up to November 30, 2017, eleven torrent files from the new album appeared in P2P networks. That said, at the beginning file sharers only showed moderately increasing interest in the top rock band’s new music.
On the day of the album’s official release, another seven torrent files containing songs of the top rock band U2 floated around on P2P networks! As a result, P2P activity kicked off and peaked with more than 37,000 P2P users downloading and sharing music by U2 on December 1, 2017! Nearly 70% of these rock and roll fans went after songs from the new album!
TOP ROCK BAND U2 MOST POPULAR AMONG FILE SHARERS IN RUSSIA
When the album “Songs of Experience” dropped, the highest number of P2P users reaching for music files from the Irish rock band came from Russia. More precisely, the file sharers in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Krasnodar, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk ensured their cities snagged a spot in the top 5 city ranking, due to how actively P2P users there were sharing music by the top rock band.
Coming in second and third in the country ranking, P2P users in China and Italy showed a clear interest in U2 music files, while Brazil and Spain came in fourth and fifth respectively.
TELECOM ITALIA BOASTS HIGHEST NUMBER OF FANS WHO SHARE U2 SONGS
Telecom Italy was the most-used ISP in Italy for downloading and sharing songs by the top rock band. The Russian ISP Rostelecom landed the second spot in the ranking, followed by Brazilian Vivo, Taiwan HiNet and Spanish Telefónica de España.
